“Art is anything (what) you can get away with”

It seems that many of Andy Warhol's beloved quotes may have originated from the words of Marshall McLuhan. Should we expect that he would have attributed them? Wouldn't it be a bit of a disappointment to learn that any of Warhol's quips weren't stolen? (or in this case exist in a slightly modified from, as the word 'what' replaces 'anything', implying that he hadn't gotten away with everything at the time)
